What is an Instagram Embed?

Many medical illustrators have been concerned about what an Instagram Embed is, and what it means for their copyright.

An Embed of your image from Instagram looks like this:

The image is as you see it on my post, with the housing around the image included. Importantly, if someone wants to see my image in a larger format, a click sends them immediately to my IG page. Try it out!

Alternatively, an Embed of Sam Bond’s image would also look like this:

In this case, the caption of the post was not included, but the image is still housed within her “post” and links directly to her IG page.

If either Sam or I were to delete these posts, the embed would look like this:

The embed is live and links directly to your post on your profile. While this is different from a screenshot without attribution, artists will need to determine their own level of comfort.
